Asda Barnes Hill enabling works have just commenced. The enabling works associated with the new Asda store development at Barnes Hill, Birmingham, started on site on the 1st October. The works comprise the demolition/clearance of existing premises formerly occupied by All Electric Garages and the RSPCA (who are currently decanting to a new purpose built RSPCA Centre and Animal Hospital on the outskirts of Birmingham), the clearance of a large number of trees and the initial works associated with a significant watercourse diversion ahead of the main store construction.
Ecological issues affecting the site have been paramount in programming and sequencing the works which have included, amongst other elements, the creation of a new badger sett for the existing site incumbents who have been encouraged to move with the aid of nightly peanut trails to their new abode. The store itself is due for completion late summer 2013 and comprises a stilted store of circa 38,000ft² net sales together with 433 parking spaces. Rose Project Services have been retained as Employers Agent on behalf of Asda Stores for this latest store development.
